Hail, friends.

So, spring 2011 semester is finally over. After a rocky start, I finally pulled my head out of my ass and produced some decent work during the last quarter of the semester. I managed to get 5 (almost 6!) pieces into the school gallery, which I am extremely proud of.

I discovered gouache this semester in my water-based painting class and fell in love with it. After struggling with watercolor and hating my life (YEAH, take that for dramatic, Michael!) as we painted an 18x24" still life and landscape with it, the open options of a portrait in gouache was a godsend (even though crappy phone pictures really aren't...).

20x15" gouache on illustration board; ~8 hours

For my final in my illustration media class, I also decided to use gouache and the result is my favorite piece yet. I actually managed to sell some prints of this, which is the first art I've ever sold. I would like to expand this into a children's book but we'll see how that goes...

10x13" gouache on illustration board; ~6 hours

I also did my first portrait in vector, which almost destroyed me and did not make gallery because it was not "blended enough." Not to sound pompous but... It's vector? I don't know. This took 8-10 hours of frustration and intentional interruptions/"breaks" on Facebook, but I am pleased with how it came out in the end.

Adobe Illustrator; 8-10 hours? I lost track

The most surprising thing I got into gallery was my assignment from character development, in which we had to infuse a character from The Princess Bride with a shot of the Old West. Since everyone was making Buttercup a whore, I figured there needed to be someone to run the cathouse - thus Madame Fezzik was born.

God, those calves...
Some other things from this semester include an unknowingly phallic bat scratchboard:

Scratchboard ~8 hours; yeah, I didn't notice "it" til I was halfway done with it

A colored pencil portrait of Chris Pine:

And character sheets and a maquette of my original character, Bentley Batsworth, which I still need to save on my flash drive before they clean the public share... Derp. My project for this summer now is my second big costume for Blizzcon in October:

Diablo 3 barbarian (concept)

Fingers crossed I get it done in time!
